Package: elinks
Version: 0.9.1-1
Severity: normal
links protects against showing dark text on a dark background, but it
doesn't make any similar attempt to avoid showing light text on a light
background. This makes many Web pages unreadable; for instance, see the
attached screenshot from the Debian Policy Manual.

Is your terminal's default background colour white?
Is Setup->Terminal options->Transparency enabled?
Such a configuration might cause the problem.

"Transparency" was enabled. This is the default setting, and as I had
no idea what it was for, I never tried changing it. I really think it
should be off by default; presumably it's for people with transparent
KTerms or whatever, but they can turn it on if they want.
